This figure shows a typical Summary View that corresponds to the hierarchical structure view presented on the SOP-Model web page. In the blue bar is a combo box for selecting different SOPs. In this case, a Gene Expression Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is selected and its workflow data was retrieved from the database from which the summary diagram below it was dynamically generated. The SOP has an ID of BxSOP-031003-01, Version 1.00 and a Descriptive Title. The ID is interpreted as: Bx is a two letter site code in this case representing a virtual BioXing lab, SOP indicates the type association for the ID, 031003 is a date for March 10, 2003 and 01 indicates that it is the first SOP written on that day. The Version number is automatically incremented anytime that a component of the SOP is modified after the SOP has been used in an experiment. That is, once an experiment has been run with the SOP it cannot be changed which ensures that the conditions of running an experiment can be discovered and re-run. The goals of the fields within the ID were to immediately convey the Location, what the ID references and when it was created. See below for a list of other types of IDs. The yellow boxes are simply functional Task grouping of subtasks, reflect processing order and each has a descriptive name. The gray boxes represent subtasks where a subtask has an order number, a descriptive name, Sample Protocol ID (BxSP-...) and possibly a corresponding protocol data entry form ID. In addition a subtask may have an Instrument and Product names. Items within a gray box that are underlined in blue are hyperlinks to more detailed information. For example, the hyperlink for the protocol will present a page with the complete protocol and the hyperlink to its form will present the data entry form that will need to be completed for that subtask. If a protocol changes then its ID will automatically change and its associated data entry form may also need changing, both of which can be modified through other web pages. Note that an estimated time for each subtask is indicated which helps in scheduling and determining where potential bottlenecks in the SOP workflow occur. The following is a list of ID definitions taken from the systems glossary. These IDs can also be bar coded and and new ID types can be easily added.
