This figure simply illustrates that scientists and bioinformaticians access a multitude of data repositories through Local Area Networks (LAN) within their organizations, through the internet to public and private providers, directly through Peer-To-Peer (P2P) collaborative connections and through an assortment of wireless devices and connections such as in laboratories or healthcare environments. A Bioinformatics system must be designed to allow data mining and integrating of information from many data sources that may be local or distributed around the world.
